ELECTION 2017

Rangimarie Island now has its own coalition government. Yes, that's right! We held an election with leaders of parties campaigning (even balloons were in the mix).
The results were...
Ruru Party 16/44 votes
Helping the Environment Party 11/44
Farmers Opportunity Party 10/44
Safety Party 7/44

Because no party had more than half the votes, leaders had further talks about a coalition.
In the end the decider was Ben, leader of the Safety Party. He went with Ruru First to form a coalition.

The Naming of Our Island - "Rangimarie"

The Process
We voted on our favourite 5 island names, which narrowed 21 names down to just 10.
From here we used a thinking tool called an "elimination chart"

And the winner... Rangimarie Island (Rangimarie the Maori word meaning "Peaceful").
Votes could only by cast against each new pair of names.
A great tool if you find you are really having difficulty deciding between your options.
We have also nearly finished painting...!

We have studied an artist who originally grew up in Brazil and later in life moved to Miami USA.
He combines elements of cubism, pop art and graffiti painting in his work, using vibrant colours and bold patterns as a visual expression of hope and happiness.

Lenticular Images

A bit of maths (measurement) combined with a bit of art and you can make your own lenticular image from 2 pictures.

Cut each image into strips.

Merge the images together.

Fold in a concertina fashion (like a fan).

The Tiger and the Fox below are on the same piece of paper.

From different angles the picture changes - like magic!
