Tauhei Marae



We stayed overnight at Tauhei Marae. We were welcomed on with a powhiri. Ben did a whaikorero (speech). We sang songs (waiata). Also activities were stick games, flax weaving, poi and preparing food (kai) for a hangi.
See Maia covering the hangi with soil. The heat was intense!
We walked up a local hill called Pukemokemoke, which means lonely hill.
It was a very cool experience to be part of.

    i liked staying at the marae because i got to see what the maori people do all day and what they eat and my favrite kind of food was the stuffing

    I liked doing the poi's. The hangi was really yum as well:)

    it was so hard to get to sleep at the marae the food was so nice my favourite food at the marae was the stuffing it was so nice

    I loved the whole trip but the one thing I loved the most was when we went on a hike and we heard the piwwaka wakas and other birds
